8/25/2015 - Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau (2014) - 5-/10

An average to mildly flat documentary about an absolutely insane film project. Granted there is nothing special about the filmmaking itself, but the stories about this bonkers filming project are worth the time (if you are into that kind of thing). Examples to whet your appetite: 1. the original director believes he used witchcraft to convince Brando to be a part of the picture. 2. Val Kilmer climbed up in a tree and wouldn't leave to finish filming. 3. The original director was banned from the set, put on a plane to leave the island, escaped, fled to the wooded areas to live off the land, and then later snuck back on set in the guise of a dog-man, was filmed and kept in the movie... These are just a few of the the many stories.
This film is all about its subject matter and, though lackluster in technique or storytelling, is worth the watch.
