STEVE JOBS (2015)

10/27/2015 - Steve Jobs (2015) - 7-/10

Antiseptic and methodological until it grows into emotion naturally with the characters. Somehow, that felt engaging of my mind but rebuffing to my emotions. A good and strong film, accomplishing its goals thoroughly, but I feel that my qualms might be with the aims and structure.

Crisp and consistent direction, but more of a Sorkin film than a Boyle. Sorkin's dialogue dominated the direction and many times, even the actors, being a bit more overbearing and visible than was necessary. Really, this felt more like a filmed play, always set up in single locations and containing dialogue bits from mostly 2 people at a time and consisting of only about 7 people total. The 3 launches/set pieces were an ingenious and effective plot framing device but kept the depth of the characters at arm's length.

I have no idea the validity of the representation of the people and events, but highly they produced highly serviceable characters. All the actors do a fine job (though I felt Winslet's accent came and went).

Perhaps a bit on the nose at times, but strong and strategic. Highly technically superb but lacking real juice of greatness. It is enjoyable and admirable, but not the most well rounded and seemed a bit full of itself & the importance it places on the film's events.
