TOWER (2016)
12/20/2016 - Tower (2016) – 7/10 – This was a gripping reinvention of this story, one that I knew dangerously little about. It was masterfully constructed, retelling the past in an interesting and stimulating fashion. I loved the rotoscoping and color manipulation to distinguish time and emotion, letting real accounts of that day’s horrors to come to a slick semblance of life.
Super interesting, though it had some parts where it dragged, spreading itself a little too thin over so many stories. Some of the momentum would dissipate, but I felt that it matched up with the stop/start intensity of the shootings and their reactions.
Despite those slight lackings, this was a strong documentary effort. Fresh and expressive, capturing the terror & heroism with savvy and grace.
