10/9/18 - The Endless (2017) - 5-/10-

I really liked the idea of this film and some clever moments, but there was a lot that just didn’t quite click with me. 1. The 2 main characters are miscast, obviously needing to be 10 yrs younger for the dialogue and plot points to work. 2. Some of the dialogue fell really flat. There whole time in the outside world didn’t work and every injection of humor flopped. 3. I wish there had been a more ambiguous ending. I think the preceding hour and a half deserved less answers, especially with their “come to Jesus”/ridiculous brotherly love bs.

This was a film with a tremendously slick premise and some damn cool ambiance, but it just never capitalized on the depth it was bringing to the table. It was clever enough, at times, and pushed in some different directions that I wasn’t anticipating. I applaud its novelty and idealized vision. The final film product was a tad disjointed and fell under the blade of ideas over execution. Solid but unspectacular, despite having the base to build off of.
