12/26/19 - Ad Astra (2019) - 4/10

I really liked The Lost City of Z, but this was a total disappointment. Space American Psycho meets Apocalypse Now, without the excitement or emotional investment = bleh. It really is a sociopathically serene space-by-the-numbers. Stark is a fine adjective to describe it. Stark and slight.

I think it wants to dally with Solaris, but it musters a mere hum for any and all emotional beats and psychological.

2 grown men struggling in the vast empty blackness of space, fruitlessly and silently. As a metaphor for father and sons relationships. A fitting emblem of this film.
