The premise of pairing the drama of an escape from a group of men trying to kill a woman after she witnessed the murder of her friend with the intensity of quickly slipping up a sheer-faced rock climb is invigorating and enticing. Unfortunately, this one quickly loses its grip and plummets to a hazy fate of obscurity and mediocrity. It’s a disappointing result when every character interaction makes your eyes roll and the details of both plot & action make Cliffhanger shine as reasonable and believable.
You can’t have any normal people or situations here, as everything has to be ratcheted up to bonkers 11. Everyone has to be too horny, too vile, too delusional, too villainous, too heinous, and too sappy. The details of what happens are so ludicrous and strain any drama because neither the characters nor situations can anyone identify with. Honestly, it kind of feels as if it was made by whatever the action film counterpart to the Lifetime Channel would be.
