Pretty standard “screwed by ‘the corporation’, he seeks revenge” army kind of plot, but there is at least some real pathos injected here, limitedly developed as it may be. The “Tree of Life on the military edge” flashbacks are effective and provide some depth. Now, I can’t say that it played out in full the way one might expect or desire (such childhood experience must certainly mess somebody up and it would have been nice to see that play out) but the thought is there so I will give it props for that.
There isn’t a ton for the mission & action, quickly moving through its paces, but doing so aptly. The plot though wraps up waaaay too quickly and nicely for it to be satisfying. It’s a front loaded movie that feels like they had to hurry up and “bring it home” for the finale, almost like there had to be 20-30 minutes that needed cutting. The action is ok and it thinks about being grim and resonant, which is interesting at least.
