MONOS (2019)
10/11/19 - Monos (2019) - 8-/10
Some of the most beautiful vistas of 2019. Just gorgeous shots of a far away world. Monos has such dynamic and invigorating cinematography and a rewarding aesthetic that is transportive and engrossing. This was a furtive jungle adventure of pain and playfulness, the dark passenger of the jungle and the crushed light of childhoods battered. It displays an existence foreign and mystifying, concussive and liberating, but ever spellbinding.
Lord of the Flies meets Kids as they journey down the dark river of Apocalypse Now. Imagine the social interplay of high school, but death and a complete lack of childhood innocence are the repercussions and limits. From moment one, we are hooked into the mesmeric world of these guerilla children. There is a fun and a frivolity, but there is also a hard edged depressing reality that to live this life is to kill what makes one young. This is a bleak adventure that is simultaneously deafening in its intensity and wistful in its natural and human depth.
See this film and kiss your hand at all of your fellow monkeys in the darkness.
