THE AERONAUTS (2019)
12/6/19 - The Aeronauts (2019) - 6/10
On the earth, the drama is pretty grounded and lackluster, but once they ascend to the heavens, so does the intensity, the excitement, and the thrill of movies. Thankfully I saw it on the big screen, where the wonder and magic of the tremendous heights and roaring passion of the danger could properly encompass me. But, even if you see it on a smaller screen, the presence of Felicity Jones will still soar. She brought passion and poignancy to her broken balloon pilot, truly pulsating and enlivening in each scene. An adventurous spirit and character properly spurred into existence; I thought this is the best performance she has given thus far.
A great example of a “making science gripping” film, but the quest to understand those cold and unknown heights does a fine job. A solid two-hander that exceeded my predictions. Redmayne, like much of the rest of the film, is a bit bland and ‘just there’, but when it truly gusts, this one might blow you down, especially if you aren’t expecting it.
