FURIE (2019)
3/3/2020 - Furie (2019) - 5/10
A standard plot that could easily come out of a JCVD, Segal or Norris vehicle from the late 80s, but it is transported to a Vietnamese female-lead action flick. That is cool and a welcome adaptive change. It doesn’t do much beyond that, but it is a decent little flick with a few solid action exchanges.
This near “woman with no name” being the downtrodden mother whose child is taken is a workable premise. “Viet Taken” with the clock ticking. Her martial prowess is impressive beyond the novelty of the situation. She isn’t the new Donnie Yen or Tony Jaa, but she was cool. It is nice to see any female action on film when I can, because it is all too lacking.
It is a brief 98 minutes that clips along well. It might not blast off, but it is a persistent fist & feet train, consistently hitting the station markers we would expect. It has issues, but is a solid ride overall.
