WHY DON'T YOU JUST DIE! (2020)
8/28/20 - Why Don’t You Just Die! 6-/10
From the tense scene one until the final shot, this film is letting its ballsy violent expressionism out to breath. It’s like Guy Ritchie zipped up with Timur Bekmambatov, with the extremes of Refn as a sleeping bag, and all wrapped up in the green & red blanket of Jeunet. An unflinching swaddled burrito of hot violence.
The blood splatteriest film of the year. It is cartoonish, but also quite dark. There are some intensely gruesome moments; moments you feel. Unrelenting until the final unkillable shot. That said, it still uses its playfulness well and exercises the plot of “straight line bullets of people's lives set in a deadly crossfire” to good extent. Its a wild and altogether absurdly lively feature. Not for the faint of heart or intensity though.
