BARDO: FALSE CHRONICLE OF A HANDFUL OF TRUTHS (2022)
2/20/23 - Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths (2022) - 4/10
Magical realism for a self journey beyond the bounds of the normal or reality. A jaunt down the road of the personal and of history and society, mouthing the words of judgment to a deaf audience. This is a beautiful looking “high brow/award chasing” attempt at Jodorowsky, but with less vital impact, content of similar questionable taste, but maybe saying less.
Feels like a reference of 8 1/2 from the jump. It desires to be “Fellini meets Malick”, but instead comes off as pretentious and self indulgent.
Every element is so very on the nose. We are taken down so many roads in this overly-long encompassing of a man-in-the-moment, but like grains of sand falling through your fingers, it left me unfulfilled. A life and death folded back upon itself, but with all that done and said, I still was left wanting in the ‘care’ department.
