8/26/219 - The Hole In The Ground (2019) - 5/10
A solid suspicion filled thriller that worked decently but probably could have used a little more obtuseness and creeping cageyness. Drawing out the mystery for more frights, more questions, and more introspection would have elevated it. As it stands, Hole is an enticing creeper that gives a little too much away, reserves more and feels more like a unrefined gem than it should.
Seána Kerslake was strong and evocative. She was a good audience surrogate and passionate witness; the type of actress performance that might indicate more in the future. Not much else truly sticks out performance wise, other than the suicidal older woman. She went for it and it paid off.
The look and cinematography of the titular hole was engaging and properly thought sucking. It was a tremendous jumping off and ending point.
Not quite empty, but not as filled as it could have been.
