THE INVISIBLE MAN (2020)
5/26/20 - The Invisible Man (2020) - 6/10
A solid but unspectacular tense thriller. The psychologically candy is quite tasty as we see another magnificent performance by Elisabeth Moss., but the last ⅓ of the film began to break down as the mystery dissipated. It still remains pretty good, but even at its heights, it never reached any of the supposed loftiness of the “prestige horror” promise (however bs that is not withstanding).
I was quite involved in her initial introduction and her devastated psyche. It plays out with such aplomb on her face as she owns this film. As she should, since she is playing against nothing, but she has a natural believability and brings an organic neurosis to her fragile character. Her work is gripping and she is put in a wise position to shine.
I suppose the CGI work was adequate, but it was all pretty expected due to the premise and trailers. I wanted a moment like Tina’s dearth in Nightmare on Elm Street. Something really shocking and unprecedented. Oh well. What they did was not bad.
I think Invisible Man was quite good, but the hype lead me to believe it would be great, which did it no favors. Well acted, wisely constructed around domestic abuse and a more inventive modern take on topic, but it didn’t do anything extraordinary or shaking, which I wanted & expected from the murmur of reviews and its horror trappings.

Mostly nitpicks that I couldn’t get out of my head -
* The cameras on the suit don’t break?
* Are they on the feet, and thus don’t get scratched/broken when in use?
* Paint just washes off PERFECTLY when thrown on, especially in mere moments?
* None seems to believe her story, despite their being video footage?
* Her suicide attempt was not paid attention to with no blood and forgotten in the story (yes, they do bandage her later on but, c’mon).
